Welcome to this new site, which will feature — over the 150th birthday year of Kansas, which begins in 2011 — 150 poems written by Kansans. The poems will be chosen for their vivid portrayal of what it means to live in Kansas, with special attention given to strong imagery and rhythms and fresh language. Please see guidelines. All poems will be chosen by the poet laureate of Kansas, Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, and will then be featured on this site, a new poem appearing every 2-4 days.
This site is part of the Kansas 150 celebrations taking place throughout the state in all manner of venue.
Love the selected poems so far and as a visitor to Kansas it brought back many memories of the state.
